My absolute favorite place to eat at in Topeka. Food is consistently great. Queso is the best I've ever had. I would also recommend getting the beef chimichanga. Atmosphere is nice, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. I've never had an unpleasant experience at this El Mezcal location.

This place is an embarrassment, the quality has gone down drastically. I ordered carry out this past weekend and it was not a good experience. For starters when I called to place my order no friendliness from the staff. I ordered 2 entrees and wasn't even asked for my choice of tortillas. When we got home the food was subpar (red chili con carne), but the worse part was the chips and salsa. Yes, I know they're complimentary, but really??? Their salsa was so watered down it was disgusting, and the chips were greasy, bland and flavorless. This is supposed to be an "authentic" Mexican restaurant, I get better chips and salsa at Carlos O Kelly's and even Chili's. I don't understand how they're still in business???

This is a great Mexican restaurant with friendly staff, quick service, and pretty good food. The food was not quite up to the high standards set by other Mexican places, but it tasted great for the price we paid. This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel that we are staying at, and they said to come to this location instead of the other locations. Our waiter was very friendly and made us laugh a little bit. Overall, the staff and the environment are very comforting and friendly, however the food could have been better in my opinion. Great place, and I would definitely recommend this for a good, cost efficient Mexican meal.

Our visit here this past Saturday evening was a dud.
Atmosphere & Service: We were seated in an awkward corner booth that looked like it was not meant to exist; we were practically surrounded by a wall and we wondered if anyone would notice us there. Well, maybe we were right to be concerned because we sat for fifteen minutes without anyone coming to get our drink order. We gave the waiter our food order as well since we didn't know when we would see him again. I asked for Sprite but was brought Coca Cola. I drank it anyway since I assumed (correctly) that we wouldn't see the server for a while and I was thirsty since I'd eaten some of the chips and salsa. The food came relatively fast comparatively, but then the server didn't come back to check on us until much later when we were ready to leave, so our empty drinks weren't refilled at all during our meal.
Food: bland. The chips were not fresh and the salsa had no flavor aside from tomato. I ordered the fajita quesadilla and can confidently say I'd make it much better for myself at home. My husband felt the same about his burrito.
Price: I wasn't paying too much attention because by the time the bill came we were running late, but whatever this cost was too much. Still forever searching for decent Mexican food in Kansas. -

While on a road trip, I stayed in Topeka for the night and found this nice place. Seemed like a very local place and was exactly what I was looking for: authentic Mexican food not the Tex Mex stuff I'm used to. I was beyond hungry and was looking for something hot to soothe that winter chill from outside. So I got some vegetarian fajitas and they hit the spot. WAY more food than I needed but treat yo self 2018
